Long An closes border with Cambodia
The southern province of Long An has closed all border gates with Cambodia to prevent the spread of Covid-19 outbreak.
Long An Province shares a 133km border with the Cambodian provinces of Svay Rieng and Prey Veng. There are Binh Hiep and My Quy Tay border gates along with three smaller gates and various paths and crossings. Thousands of people used to cross the border each day but fewer and fewer people venture out at this time.
My Quy Tay border guards said they had monitored the situation and worked with Cambodian counterparts to deal with the outbreak.
Travellers have had body temperature checks since the outbreak started. They are also required to wash hands and keep informed about the outbreak and preventive measures. Nearly 1,000 face masks have been given for free to travellers.
Tran Van Can, chairman of Long An People's Committee, said, "It's important to prepare and have preventive measures. All locality authorities must follow the guidelines to prevent, detect, quarantine, localise and stamp out the outbreak. Healthcare workers must be protected."
1,990 people are being quarantined in Long An. In which 427 people are in group quarantine. As of March 25, the province hasn't detected any cases. A woman in Long An was quarantined recently after returning to Vietnam on the same flight with the 123rd patient in Ben Tre Province.
