The HCM City Department of Transport has proposed a halt to the local river bus route to help Covid-19 prevention.

According to the department, the suspension would run for two weeks until May 5.

Passenger numbers using the river bus have drastically dropped. Many passengers did not wear masks while sitting on the river bus.

The department has also suggested that public road buses should transport only 20 passengers or not more than half of its capacity to mitigate the virus infection risk.

Each row of seats on a bus is for just one person to ensure safe distance.

At bus stops, passengers are advised to stand at least two metres apart.

Under the department’s suggestion, the operation frequency of ferry-boats needs to be arranged appropriately and the minimum distance among passengers must be two metres. All passengers have to wear mask.

At present, HCM City is operating 14,573 bus trips per day, serving around 251,340 people.

Meanwhile, the river bus route has 20 trips, attracting around 400 passengers daily.
