People released from quarantine areas still may spread SARS-CoV-2

As of April 8 in HCM City, many people have been released from group quarantine areas. Only 2,033 people are still being quarantined, 1,428 of them are at the dormitories of Vietnam National University in Thu Duc District. Several quarantine areas such as Phuong Nam Hotel or Legion 4 Base have been cleared.

However, Dr Truong Huu Khanh, head of the Infection - Neurology department at Children's Hospital 1, said the risks remained high since many people were found violating the rules while being quarantined. A photo posted online not long ago showed many people gathered inside the quarantine area for a party before they were released.

Everyone is tested twice before released but they can also be infected after the second test or before being released. Two people in HCM City have been tested positive right before being released. Khanh said it would be better to continue home-isolation for 14 more days afterwards to make sure that they will not give the virus to other people, especially their family.

Vietnam didn't have new cases on some days but everyone must still be on guard since new hotspots may appear, there are risks from imported cases and hotspots at Bach Mai Hospital in Hanoi and the Buddha Bar in HCM City.

Khanh reminded everyone to wear face masks, washing hands regularly, keeping themselves healthy and hydrated.
