Authorities of the central city of Danang are identifying a man who used a catapult to attack monkeys at a local pagoda.

On May 11, a short clip about the case was posted on a Facebook page on Danang’s environmental protection. It went viral on the internet later.

The man used the catapult to tease the monkeys

According to the video, a man who is said to work as a photographer at Linh Ung Pagoda on Son Tra Peninsula in Danang teased the monkeys there by using a slingshot.

This annoyed the animals which then acted aggressively to anyone who even raised their hands to say hello to them or took photos.

A representative from Danang’s Son Tra Peninsular and beach management board said that authorities are identifying the man and will strictly reprimand him.

The Son Tra Peninsular and beach management board, however, denied the claim that light injuries seen on a monkey were caused by his action, saying that it was more likely caused by disputes among the animals.

These monkeys called Rhesus Macaque are listed among rare and endangered species in line with the Vietnamese government’s decision issued in 2006.
