Can Tho launches post-Covid-19 tourism promotion programme

The Mekong Delta City of Can Tho has started a tourism stimulus programme after being hard-hit by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The programme kicked off on Thursday and is targeted at domestic visitors amid the suspension of many flights due to the pandemic.

According to the provincial Department of Tourism, in the first five months of this year, Can Tho lured only 1.4 million travellers, representing an on-year decrease of 66.5%.

Of the figure, the number of tourists who stayed overnight in the locality was 435,000 people, down 65.2% on-year.

The province’s total tourism revenues in the period were estimated at VND799 billion (USD34.7 million), down 59.1% on-year.

Nguyen Minh Tuan, deputy head of Can Tho’s Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, called on more than 90 tourism firms which attended the launching ceremony to actively participate in the stimulus programme.

The programme focuses on discounts, raising tourism quality, introducing new and attractive tourism products.

Many new tourism products in Can Tho such as Can Tho-Con Dao river tour; farming experience at Bao Trang Farm in Cai Rang District and the Thoi An Dong Village in Binh Thuy District were also introduced at the ceremony.
