Transport ministry to repair Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat runways
Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed to let the Ministry of Transport hire contractors to repair the runways at Noi Bai and Tan Son Nhat airports instead of holding a tendering process.
According to the Civil Aviation Administration of Vietnam, there are imprints of wheel tracks on the runway 11R/29L at Noi Bai Airport and there will be cracks as temperatures get higher in summer. The puddles created when it rains will further damage the runway. Moreover, several concrete slabs have broken.
Many problems can also be found at At Tan Son Nhat Airport. The 25L/07R runway has many cracks and subsidence. Some concrete slabs on the runways have also broken.
The Ministry of Transport have asked the PM to hire Thang Long Project Management Board and Cuu Long Corporation for Investment Development and Project Management of Infrastructure as the contractors.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment has supported the decision to repair the runways as soon as possible. The Ministry of Transport can decide and carry out the project, from reviewing to designing and evaluating, in accordance with the construction laws.
The selected contractor must meet the requirements about experience and ability.
