A snake has been found in a hand luggage compartment on a plane of Vietjet Airlines on June 7.

At 5 pm, the Vietjet aeroplane was preparing to take off from Tan Son Nhat to Noi Bai Airport when a snake was detected moving out of the hand luggage compartment. The crew members had to halt the take-off procedure, clear the plane, report to the ground staff and return the plane to the parking place.

This plane had had a flight from Hanoi to HCM City at 3 pm on the same day.

Dinh Viet Thang, director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, confirmed the case.

"This was a baby snake that is 20cm long. It's a pet snake so it's not poisonous. It was brought onto the plane by a male passenger. When the plane was preparing to take off, it escaped from the passenger's luggage," he said. "All animals are banned on this flight."

Thang said they were investigating the case and responsibilities of each party before proposing punishment.

In 2017, a passenger brought a non-poisonous snake on a Ravn Alaska plane from Aniak to Anchorage and forgot it there when passengers left. In 2016, an Aero Mexico plane got priority landing after a green snake appeared on the ceiling of the cabin during flight and dropped onto the floor.
