The British pilot, who is the most serious Covid-19 patient in Vietnam, has recovered and is now in good enough health to be flown back to the UK according to the Ministry of Health.

Vietnamese doctors hold a consultation on the health of the British Covid-19 patient in Ho Chi Minh City on July 3

The information was announced at a Friday consultation, the sixth of this kind, on the pilot’s condition before he is discharged from hospital.

According to head of the consultation, Doctor Nguyen Gia Binh, the 43-year-old pilot, who is staying at Cho Ray Hospital in HCM City, has improved well and can now walk and communicate well with others.

Doctors reported that after over 100 days of treatment, the patient now has to use only two types of medicine to regulate blood pressure. He has lost over 20 kilos and weighs 81 kilos now.

Speaking at the consultation, Luong Ngoc Khue, Head of the Health Ministry's Department of Medical Examination and Treatment concluded that the patient was now in good enough health to be flown back to the UK.

"The patient will have nine more days to rehabilitate and practice necessary movements so that he can travel by air to the UK on July 12," the official said. "Cho Ray Hospital will co-operate with the insurance company and the British Embassy to prepare necessary procedures for the British pilot to return home."

As of Saturday morning, the country has gone 79 straight days without virus community transmission, according to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control. Of the total 355 confirmed cases so far, 215 are imported and quarantined upon arrival.

Up to 340 or 95.8 percent of all infections have recovered, and there are no related deaths, the committee reported.
