This morning, July 9, a delegation of the Ministry of Health led by Acting Minister Nguyen Thanh Long had a meeting with representatives from Central Highlands provinces and the two central provinces of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai on diphtheria prevention and control.
The Ministry of Health has planned to provide diphtheria vaccination for up to 4.7 million people
According to the acting minister, the province would urgently provide around 10 million doses of diphtheria vaccines for the Central Highlands region and the two lowland provinces amid the widespread diphtheria infection.
Long added that this year the disease had proved more of a problem. He instructed vaccinations against diphtheria for all children aged more than two. The vaccination programme is expected to cover up to 4.7 million in Central Highlands localities and Quang Nam and Quang Ngai provinces.
He noted that all people who have contact with diphtheria patients need to be quarantined.
The Ministry of Health reported that diphtheria has appeared in Gia Lai with 15 cases and one death, Kon Tum with 24 cases, Dak Lak with one case and Dak Nong with 26 cases and one fatality.
