Children and the elderly have been hospitalized in the past days in Hanoi as temperatures in the north are dropping to 3-4 degrees Celsius.

The number of hospitalized children has increased rapidly as the North freezes.

It is estimated that nearly 1,300 child patients were sent to the Vietnam National Hospital of Pediatrics Monday while the number of patients to Bach Mai and Xanhpon hospitals increases by 20 pct.

They are diagnosed to suffer from cough, bronchitis, cold, or diarrhea due to the freezing air.

Meanwhile, around 150 elderly people have been sent to the Vietnam National Hospital of Geriatrics suffering from high blood pressure, cardiovascular, cerebrovascular, and pneumonia.

According to doctors, children need to be wrapped up and kept warm while the elderly should not venture outside in cold weather.
