More Covid-19 deaths reported in Vietnam

The seventh and eighth Covid-19 deaths have been confirmed by the Ministry of Health on the morning of August 4.

Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son confirmed late Tuesday morning that a 62-year-old woman and a 65-year-old man from Danang City had become the seventh and eight patients who died from Covid-19 in Vietnam.

The 62-year-old woman was from Hoa Vang District. She had suffered from kidney failure for 10 years. From July 18 to 27, she was treated at Danang Hospital. From July 30, she was transferred to Hue Central Hospital and she couldn't eat or breathe well.

On August 1, she needed to use the ventilator at 3 am. Four hours later, she was unconscious and had low blood pressure. At 5 pm, she suffered from multi-organ failure and infection. On August 3, she continued falling into a deep coma, had gastrointestinal bleeding and blood pressure kept dropping. She died at 2.30 am on August 4 because of kidney failure, multi-organ failure, septic shock and Covid-19.

The 65-year-old man also had kidney failure and sepsis. He was treated at Danang Hospital in May and was discharged on July 24. On July 28, he was tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 and was admitted to Danang Hospital as he needed to be intubated immediately.

From August 2, his blood pressure continued to drop and he fell into a coma on August 4. He died at 8.30 am.

The official also said that several patients are in critical conditions and have high mortality risks due to old age and underlying illnesses.

On July 31, the patient 428, a 70-year-old man from Quang Nam Province with heart disease and kidney failure became the first patient in Vietnam died because of Covid-19.


Five more patients died afterwards. All of them were related to the outbreak in Danang and had serious underlying illnesses.
