Vietnam confirms 11th COVID-19-related death

A 55-year old woman in Da Nang has died of Covid-19 and other diseases, raising the fatalities to 11, according to Deputy Minister of Health Nguyen Truong Son.

The woman, a native of Hai Chau II Ward in Da Nang’s Hai Chau District, was admitted to Hoan My General Hospital on July 28 after being suspected of having Covid-19.


She was confirmed positive for the virus on July 29.

On July 30, she developed serious respiratory failure and was transferred to Hue Central Hospital in the neighboring province of Thua Thien-Hue.

On August 7, her health conditions continued getting worse and doctors had to put her on a ventilator and ECMO and filter her blood.

On August 9, she got symptoms of hypotension, gastrointestinal bleeding, and cardiopulmonary arrest and she passed away at 12:00 pm at the Hue Central Hospital.

Her causes of death include pneumonia due to Covid-19, multi-organ failure, gastrointestinal bleeding due to hypertension, Son said.

As of Sunday evening, Vietnam recorded 29 new Covid-19 cases, raising the total number of patients to 841, according to the National Steering Committee for Covid-19 Prevention and Control.
