Chairman of the National Assembly (NA)’s Committee for External Relations, Tran Van Giau, has just proposed to raise the fines on illegal entry to Vietnam up to VND75 million (USD3,260).

A group of Chinese people were detained after illegally entering Vietnam on July 29 via a border in Quang Ninh Province.

The proposal was made at a NA meeting on August 10.

At the meeting, Giau highly appreciated Quang Ninh Provincial People's Committee for their 25-year sentences for six locals who illegally organised entry for foreign people into the country

Answering Giau's questions on the fines on violations of regulations on immigration, residence and travel, Minister of Justice Le Thanh Long said that the current fines were between VND 30 – 40 million (USD 1,304-1,739) for illegally organising entry into Vietnam.

Speaking at the government cabinet meeting, spokesperson of the Ministry of Public Security, To An Xo reported that since the beginning of this year, over 500 Chinese people had been found illegally entering Vietnam through localities including An Giang, Danang, Bac Ninh, and Quang Ninh.
