The coastal road will go through three districts in the northern province of Nam Dinh including Giao Thuy district with a length of 24.54km, Hai Hau district with a length of 24.59km and Nghia Hung district with a length of 16.44km.

The road measures a total of 50.98km including 38.02km of new construction and 12.96km of upgrades.

The project will have a total investment of VND2,655 billion (US$114.5 million) including VND1,000 billion from the State budget with the remaining capital sourced from local budget and other sources. The project also includes three bridges, 16 big box culverts and six intersections.

The two-lane coastal road is designed to be 11m wide and will have a speed limit of 80km per hour.

According to Chairman of Nam Dinh provincial People’s Committee Pham Dinh Nghi, this is an important strategic project to create a breakthrough in socio-economic and tourism development in Nam Dinh province. The project will enhance connectivity and shorten the transportation distance between Nam Dinh and neighbouring provinces.

Director of Nam Dinh Department of Transport Tran Van Cong said that the project is expected to connect the political-economic centres of the three coastal districts with the National Roads 37B, 21 and 21B.

The project is also hoped to contribute to exploiting themarine tourism potential in Nam Dinh province including the Xuan Thuy National Park, Quat Lam, Con Mo and Thinh Long sea tourism areas and others.
