Storm Nangka forecast to hit Vietnam northern central region
Strom Nangka is moving towards the Gulf of Tonkin and forecasted to affect northern and northern central localities of Vietnam.
According to the National Centre for Hydrometeorology Forecasting, by 4 pm today, October 13, the storm would lay centred in the area some 170 kilometres from the Spratly Islands with wind power of 75-90 kilometres per hour.
In the next 24-26 hours, the storm would move towards the Gulf of Tonkin with the speed of 15-20 kilometres per hour.
Between 36 and 48 hours to come, the storm would make landfall into localities in the south of the northern delta region and northern central region and then weaken into a low-pressure system.
Due to being affected by the storm, on October 14-16, northern and northern central localities are expected to experience heavy rain with strong winds.
The central region of Vietnam is being battered by torrential rains and flooding, causing 37 people dead and missing.
The three provinces of Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien-Hue which are among the hardest hit localities are seeking government approval to provide 4,000 tonnes of rice, 10,000 packets of instant noodles, two tonnes of dry provisions and 110 tonnes of seeds of different kinds, along with sterilisation chemicals and rescue equipment.
