Coaches licensed to transport more than 35 tourists will not be allowed to travel in Hanoi’s inner-city area from October 20.

The municipal people’s committee has approved the revision of the operations of means of transport on Hanoi streets.

Coaches licensed to transport more than 35 tourists will not be allowed to travel in Hanoi’s inner-city area from October 20.

According to the committee, from October 20, 35-seat or greater capacity tourist buses are banned from operating in Hanoi’s inner-city areas between 4 to 7:30 pm.

This is aimed to ease traffic jams in the city at peak hours.

However, vehicles with fewer than 35 seats are still permitted to travel in the city round-the-clock, but they have to show their legal badges.

Despite numerous attempts by the Hanoi authorities to ease traffic congestion in the capital, the roads still remain crowded.

The Department of Transport says since 2016, traffic congestion at 59 hotspots has been eased, but a further 48 problem areas have come to light.

These hotspots, the department said, are caused mainly by the rapid increase of high-rise buildings and apartment blocks in Hanoi’s centre, along with poor infrastructure.
