Vietnam records six more imported Covid-19 patients on October 19

Six more people who recently arrived in Vietnam from Russia and the UAE have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,140, the Ministry of Health announced on Monday evening.

According to the ministry's report, five among the new patients including four men and a woman aged between 26-40 returned from Russia on October 16 at the Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province. They were sent to a quarantine area in Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces upon arrival.

They tested positive for coronavirus on October 18 and are now being treated at hospitals in Nam Dinh and Ninh Binh provinces.

The next patient is a 32-year-old French woman who arrived in Vietnam from Dubai at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on October 17.

He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for coronavirus on October 18. He is now being treated at Cu Chi Field Hospital for Covid-19 patients.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 449.

As of 6pm on October 19, a total of 1,046 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has gone 47 days without reporting any new case in the community.

At present, 12,379 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
