The southernmost province of Ca Mau People’s Committee has asked its agencies and local people to limit leisure activities to focus on natural disaster prevention.

According to the committee, the province has faced torrential rain, strong wind and high flood tides due to being impacted by the three recent storms.

Many areas in Ca Mau are flooded.

Up to over 4,500 metres of the local coast have been eroded, while more than 70 houses have been damaged. The flooding has affected nearly 21,000 hectares of rice, 267 hectares of crops and over 3,800 hectares of aquatic farming. Many roads in the province have also been put under water, particularly in Ca Mau City.

Cau Mau authorities have also made preparations to respond to Storm Saudel.

The committee chairman Le Quan has asked local agencies and people to limit leisure activities and those which are not necessary to concentrate on natural disaster prevention as well as deal with the consequences of the recent storms.

The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has been urged to timely update the information about Storm Saudel on different channels so that local people can know.

The department will also mobilise equipment to help local residents to harvest rice and crops and protect dykes.

The Department of Transport needs to check roads to issue warnings and make necessary repairs.
