Man tests positive for SARS-CoV-2 after returning from Angola

A 29-year-old Vietnamese man who recently returned from Angola has tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,145, the Ministry of Health announced on Thursday morning.

According to the ministry's report, the new patient returned from Angola at Van Don Airport on October 20. He was sent to a quarantine area in Bac Ninh Province upon arrival and tested positive for coronavirus on October 21.

The man is now being treated at the Bac Ninh Provincial General Hospital.

On October 21, a 33-year-old woman and her eight-month-old son who boarded the same flight with him were also infected with coronavirus.

With this new infection case, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 454.

As of 6 am on October 22, a total of 1,046 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has gone 50 days without reporting any new case in the community.

At present, 13,652 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
