The 22 members of the Defence Economics Division 337 in Huong Phung Commune, Huong Hoa District were buried after a landslide hit an area of more than a hectare at around 1 am on October 18.
The service was held at the Quang Tri provincial sport complex. After the memorial service, the bodies of the soldiers were transferred to their localities to be buried according to their family wishes.
Deputy Prime Minister Truong Hoa Binh, alongside a number of ministers and top military leaders offered incense and extended condolences to the bereaved.

Major General Nguyen Duc Hoa delivered a funeral oration in which he referred to the efforts made by the soldiers to help evacuate local people from flood-hit areas to higher ground. They died when sleeping at a military post at night.
State President Nguyen Phu Trong on October 20 signed a decision to posthumously honour the 22 officers and soldiers with the National Defence Order during their natural disaster prevention work.
On October 18, Military Region 4 also held a memorial service for 13 other servicemen who died at Ranger Station 67 in Thua Thien-Hue Province while looking for a group of 17 missing workers at the Rao Trang 3 Hydropower plant in the province.
The central region of Vietnam has been devastated by two subsequent storms that caused prolonged heavy rain, flash floods and landslides. As of Wednesday evening, the death toll caused by the floods reached 112; the heaviest death toll caused by natural disasters in the past five years.
