Eight more imported Covid-19 patients confirmed, total rises to 1,168

Eight more Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from France, Angola, and the US have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,168, the Ministry of Health announced on Sunday evening.

According to the ministry's report, the new patients include four people who returned from France at Tan Son International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on October 21. They were sent to a quarantine area in Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province upon arrival and tested positive for coronavirus on October 24.

The four patients are now being treated at Long Dien District Healthcare Centre.

Three other patients are all children aged between 1-5 who returned from Angola at Van Don International Airport in Quang Ninh Province on October 20. They were sent to a quarantine area with their mothers in Bac Giang Province upon arrival and the two mothers earlier tested positive for coronavirus.

The last patient is a 64-year-old man who returned from the US at the Danang International Airport on October 23. He was also sent to quarantine upon arrival in Quang Nam Province.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 477.

As of 6 pm on October 25, a total of 1,057 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has gone 53 days without reporting any new case in the community.

At present, 14,576 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
