Hundreds of people living near the Tam Giang Lagoon in Thua Thien-Hue Province are preparing to move as their houses are being flooded by the Storm Molave.

Heavy rains and strong waves submerged hundreds of houses on the Tam Giang Lagoon in Phu Loc District by Wednesday noon. Power has been cut in the district to ensure safety for local residents.

Le Chien, 64, said that heavy rains started from early this morning, October 28, and strong waves hit the houses in his area.

“Hundreds of houses here have been submerged and we’re preparing boats to move if the water continues to rise," he said.

Speaking to the Lao Dong Newspaper, chairman of Phu Loc District People's Committee, Nguyen Van Manh said that local authorities had prepared for the storm since yesterday and the area saw heavy downpours and strong wind this morning.

"Many trees have fallen in the area but there has been no damage to houses or other constructions," the official confirmed.
