Hanoi to open five metro routes in 10 years

Hanoi authorities plan to have five metro lines in operation by 2030, announced Nguyen The Hung, vice chairman of Hanoi People's Committee.

The target is a part of the city’s public transport development plan to 2030. In 2019, the public transport system in Hanoi received 949 million passengers and met 17.03% of the travel demands. There were 2,000 buses and over 19,000 taxi cabs which met 8.7% and 2% of the travel demands of Hanoi residents respectively.

According to the plan, the public transport system in the city will be able to meet 30-35% of travel demand by the end of 2025 and 45-50% of the demand by the end of 2030.

Three metro lines including Cat Linh-Ha Dong, Nhon-Hanoi Station and Van Cao-Ngoc Khanh-Hoa Lac routes will be opened for traffic by 2025. Two other metro lines which are Nam Thang Long-Tran Hung Dao-Thuong Dinh and Hanoi Station-Yen So will be opened from now to 2030.

10 bus-only lanes will be opened from now to 2030. Five lanes with a total length of 22.6 km will be opened from now to 2025 on Hoang Quoc Viet, Tran Duy Hung, Xa Dan, Vo Chi Cong and Vo Van Kiet streets.

From 2026 to 2030, the authorities will carry out research to open five more bus-only lanes with a total length of 82.3 km on Nhon-Ho Tung Mau, Ngoc Hoi-Thuong Tin Bus Station, My Dinh Stadium-Noi Bai Airport and Thuong Tin-Phu Xuyen routes.
