Landslide isolates thousands of people in Quang Ngai

Around 2,000 people in the central province of Quang Ngai are being isolated by a landslide following prolonged torrential rain.

The northern district of Tra Bong in Quang Ngai has been facing heavy rain, causing landslides on many local roads.

Ho Bao Xuyen, chairman of Huong Tra Commune said that early December 1, a serious landslide occurred in the locality with thousands of cubic metres of soil and rock covering local houses.

Luckily there was no human loss of life but it affected 400 houses with a total of roughly 2,000 people in the three villages of Tra Huynh, Tra Van and Ca Dam in Huong Tra Commune have been isolated.

Roads liking the three villages have remained blocked due to the vast amount of soil and rocks.

Earlier, several landslides also happened on November 30 and December 1 in Son Long Commune, Son Tay District. As a result, some 3,000 cubic metres of soil and rock spilled over a local road and stream. Some nearby households had to be evacuated.
