Nearly 100 pigs found on the side of a road in the central province of Nghe An are suspected of having African Swine Fever.

Nearly 100 pigs are found on the side of a road in the central province of Nghe An on December 3.

At 6 pm on December 3, local people discovered nearly 100 pigs abandoned on the side of the road between Nghia Dan District in Nghe An Province and Nhu Xuan District in Thanh Hoa Province, five of them had died. Each pig weighs about 30-40kg. It's likely that the owners abandoned the pigs at night.

After receiving the report, the authorities in Nghia Lac Commune, Nghia Dan District worked together with the authorities in Xuan Binh Commune, Nhu Xuan District to collect the pigs and disinfect the site to prevent the spread of possible outbreak.

All of the pigs had their tails cut which means they were raised at farms and suspected of having African Swine Fever.

"It's unacceptable. Throwing out dead pigs and abandoning a large number of pigs like that will badly affect the environment and the lives of other people living nearby. African Swine Fever is still developing complicatedly in several locations," said Lo Van Thuy, vice chairman of Nghia Lac Commune People's Committee.

The local authorities have sent employees to disinfect the site, cull the pigs and set up check-points to prevent similar cases.
