Armed police force deployed to Tan Son Nhat Airport
Armed police will help ensure security at Ho Chi Minh City’s Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
This morning, January 21, the HCM City Police Department deployed the armed police to key city sites, including Tan Son Nhat International Airport.
According to Major General Le Hong Nam, director of the HCM City Department of Police, Tan Son Nhat is Vietnam’s biggest airport. Security at the airport has been ensured but the airport still faces problems such as passengers using forged identity papers for flights and smuggling.
The group includes police officers from the city’s different police forces, and will patrol in the areas of Tan Son Nhat Air Traffic Control Centre and Tan Son Nhat Airport Radar Station.
In the 2018-2020 period, up to 257 cases of illegal weapon transportation were found at Tan Son Nhat International Airport. Meanwhile, 96 cases threatening flight safety by laser beams and drones took place over the period.
