Hanoi authorities have asked local schools of all levels to be temporarily closed from February 1 amid the new Covid-19 wave.

The decision followed the proposal of the municipal Department of Education and Training on allowing local students to be off from school for Tet Holiday one week earlier than scheduled for Covid-19 prevention.

The school shutdown will last until February 16.

Up to 14 new Covid-19 infection cases were reported in Vietnam this morning, January 31, raising the total number of Covid-19 patients in the country to 1,781, the Ministry of Health said.

Among the new cases, one is a grade-3 student at a Hanoi primary school in Nam Tu Liem District. The boy was infected with the virus from his father.

As a result, all of his classmates and teacher, consisting of 36 people, have been sent to a quarantine site.
