Vietnam records 19 more locally-transmitted Covid-19 cases

Vietnam has recorded 19 more Covid-19 infection cases, raising the total number of patients in the country to 1,976, the Ministry of Health reported on Friday evening.

According to the ministry's report, all of the newly found patients were infected in the community and linked to the hotspots Hai Duong province and Van Don Airport in Quang Ninh Province. They include one in Hanoi, 12 in Hai Duong, three in Dien Bien, two in Quang Ninh, and one in Ha Giang provinces.

The new virus outbreak has so far spread to 12 provinces and cities including Hai Duong, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Gia Lai, Hoa Binh, Bac Ninh, Bac Giang, Hai Phong, Binh Duong, Ho Chi Minh City, Dien Bien, and Ha Giang.

With these new infection cases, the number of imported Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 1,976, including 1,087 locally-transmitted cases with 394 cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28.

As of 6 pm on February 5, a total of 1,465 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, as many as 80,113 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
