HCM City leaders visited HCM City CDC to give directives on more testing and tightening monitoring and screening after Tet.

HCM City conducted 45,000 tests

On February 19, Duong Anh Duc, vice-chairman of HCM City People's Committee visited HCM City CDC to discuss prevention work during Tet and the future.

About 700 Japanese experts have arrived at Tan Son Nhat Airport and 200 are staying and working in HCM City. The city health sector on February 18 asked local authorities to verify and take their samples for testing.

Nguyen Tri Dung, director of HCM City CDC said, "The employees at the CDC have worked to full capacity at all hotspots in the city. This is a large outbreak with lots of travelling and risks. When the outbreak at Tan Son Nhat Airport was detected, we already agreed to stay and work through Tet."

The CDC has consulted with the Department of Health to implement various solutions in taking samples and contract tracing as well as other preventive measures and logistic problems.

HCM City has so far conducted nearly 45,000 tests. More tests have been carried out at bus stations and the airport. About 1,000 samples were taken every day from bus stations and train stations. 186 people who went to HCM City from outbreak areas have been quarantined.

Duc said, "For each virus variant, the plans may change quickly. We are being pro-active instead of waiting for new cases and have seen some good results. The health sector and HCM City CDC can work better and propose stronger solutions to better control the situation."
