Two Filipino nationals among four new Covid-19 patients in Vietnam

Two Filipino people who recently arrived in Vietnam to work have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2, raising the total number of patients in the country to 2,590, the Ministry of Health reported on Sunday morning.

According to the ministry's report, the two Filipino women aged 25 and 27 landed at Noi Bai Airport in Hanoi on March 15. They were sent to a quarantine area in Bac Ninh Province upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 in their second testing on March 27. They are now being treated at the Hanoi-based National Hospital for Tropical Diseases.


Two other new patients are Vietnamese women aged 28 and 36 who entered Vietnam through the Moc Bai International Border Gate in Tay Ninh Province on March 26. They were sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and tested positive for SARS-CoV-2 on March 27. The two patients are now being treated at the Tay Ninh Provincial General Hospital.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,590, including 914 locally-transmitted cases reported since the new outbreak started in Hai Duong on January 28. Hai Duong Province alone has recorded 726 cases.

As of 6 am on March 28, a total of 2,308 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, as many as 44.833 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.
