Authorities in the Central Highlands province of Dak Lak have detained 12 people for illegally entering Vietnam from Cambodia.

At around 1:20 pm on April 25, the Covid-19 prevention and control task force in Ea Sup District stopped a group of 10 people in the border area of Ia Rve Commune. They were on eight motorbikes.

The people illegally enter Vietnam from Cambodia

Initially, they said that they had come to a forest to seek for honey and orchid  trees; however, due to getting lost, they had entered Cambodia. After that, they turned back to Vietnam after recognising they had crossed the border.

Later, two more people in the group came to the border post to admit their illegal entry into Vietnam.

The 12 people have been sent to a local quarantine site for Covid-19 prevention.

The case is under further investigation.

Colonel Dao Viet Hung, head of Dak Lak Border Force, said that the province is facing a high risk of a Covid-19 outbreak due to the rise in illegal migrants from Cambodia.

The border force has set up six fixed posts and many other mobile ones for dealing with illegal entry.

Around 73 kilometres of Dak Lak Province’s borderline is close to Cambodia’s Mondulkiri Province.
