The central city of Danang has decided to temporarily suspend Covid-19 vaccinations after a local health worker experienced anaphylaxis.

According to Le Duc Nhan, director of Danang Hospital, the female healthcare worker from the hospital faced anaphylactoid shock after being provided with the first injection of the AstraZeneca vaccine.

Her reaction was quite quick and serious with tinnitus. She was immediately given active resuscitation and mechanical ventilation. The woman does not have a history of drug allergy or anaphylactoid shock, Nhan said.

Following the resuscitation, the healthcare worker was in a relatively stable health condition, Nhan disclosed.

The hospital has temporarily halted vaccinations and sealed the entire batch of the vaccine for an evaluation of the vaccination procedures.

Earlier, many people who were vaccinated against Covid-19 suffered normal reactions. Only a few have experienced light anaphylactoid shocks.

A representative from the Danang Department of Health said that the city is waiting for the Ministry of Health’s instruction about the Covid-19 vaccination after the health worker’s anaphylaxis.

Vietnam has recently recorded the first death after Covid-19 vaccination. The deceased was a 35-year-old female medical worker in the southern province of An Giang.
