Vietnam records 33 more locally-transmitted Covid-19 infections on Wednesday morning

33 more locally-transmitted and one imported Covid-19 infection cases have been confirmed in Vietnam, raising the total number of patients in the country to 3,571, the Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday morning.

According to the ministry's report, all 33 new locally-transmitted cases were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown including 13 in Vinh Phuc Province, seven in Danang City, six in Bac Giang Province, five in Hanoi, and one each in Lang Son and Nam Dinh provinces.

As of Wednesday morning, 561 new locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27. The outbreak has so far spread to 26 cities and provinces nation-wide.

The imported patient is a 24-year-old man who returned from Russia to Danang City on April 21. He was sent to a local quarantine area upon arrival and is now being treated at the Danang Lung Hospital.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 3,571, including 2,131 locally-transmitted cases.


As of 6 pm on May 11, a total of 2,618 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital. There have been 35 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, nearly 68, 000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

Also on May 11, 20,732 more people were given Cvid-19 vaccine in Vietnam, raising the total number of vaccinated people to 887,705.
