Local authorities briefed the delegation on details regarding Tuyen Quang’s socio-economic development, along with the results of co-operation between the province and its partners in the RoK over the recent past.

They also identified potential fields of future co-operation, including partnerships between the province and various RoK localities, official development assistance (ODA), and agriculture, tourism, transport-smart urban building, labour and employment, education and training, and industry and trade.

Nguyen Van Son, chairman of the provincial People’s Committee, hailed the RoK’s support for the province’s socio-economic development, especially in terms of health care, education, and agricultural development.

He therefore voiced his hope that the RoK Embassy, via the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) Vietnam Office, will continue to provide assistance to the province with smart urban development taking place in Tuyen Quang city.

This is in addition to high-tech agricultural production and the inclusion of local products in the global value chains of firms from the RoK. He also called upon firms to invest in high-tech and safe vegetable growing areas, whilst sharing knowledge of organic production.

In response, the Korean side is also anticipated to assist Tuyen Quang to attract investment in tourism development, whilst simultaneously creating optimal conditions for students at vocational schools who wish to study and work in the RoK.

Ambassador Noh-wan lavished praise on Tuyen Quang’s socio-economic achievements and its efforts to contain the spread of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.

He expressed his hope that the successful implementation of a rural development programme in the province, supported by the RoK, will become a model that is expanded to other mountainous localities.

The Korean diplomat added that he will continue to introduce Tuyen Quang province to RoK localities in order to form partnerships and help Vietnamese people who wish to temporarily work in the Far East country. This will be done alongside considering aid in education, health care, and human resources training, thereby luring additional businesses from the RoK to the province.

The RoK Ambassador noted that Tuyen Quang will soon open an expressway which will link it with the Noi Bai-Lao Cai expressway, thereby facilitating greater co-operation between the province and the RoK.

At present, Tuyen Quang is home to six projects involving investment from the RoK, with registered capital of approximately US$32 million. Of the total, a US$18.39 million rural development project is being implemented in the province using non-refundable aid from the Korean Government via KOICA.
