Additional 983 more Covid-19 patients announced in Tuesday noon report

An additional 983 more Covid-19 infections have just been confirmed in Vietnam in the past six hours, raising the total number of patients in the country to 33,648 the Ministry of Health reported at noon on Tuesday.

According to the ministry's report, 982 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases 920 of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 886 in Ho Chi Minh City, 29 in Long An, 27 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 12 in Dong Thap, 11 in Ben Tre, four in Phu Yen, two in Quang Ngai, two in Binh Thuan, two in Bac Ninh, and one each in Nam Dinh, Nghe An, Bac Giang, Hanoi, Lao Cai, Binh Phuoc, and Thanh Hoa.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Monday, the city also recorded 1,764 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Tuesday noon, 30,136 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 16,027 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 33,648 including 31,706 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 am on July 13, a total of 9,331 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 125 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

At present, over 259,000 people who had close contact with Covid-19 patients or returned from virus-hit areas are being monitored at hospitals, quarantine facilities, and at home.

By the end of July 12, Vietnam has conducted over 4.06 million doses of Covid-19 vaccine. More than 280,000 people have received two doses of the vaccine.
