Over 3,400 new Covid-19 patients announced on Thursday in Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 3,416 more Covid-19 infections on Thursday including 2,691 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 40,850 the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 3,397 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases 3,099 of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 2,691 in Ho Chi Minh City, 132 in Dong Nai, 122 in Binh Duong, 99 in Dong Thap, 48 in Phu Yen, 41 in Long An, 33 in Danang, 30 in Ben Tre, 22 in Khanh Hoa, 22 in Hung Yen, 18 in Hanoi, 17 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 17 in Ninh Thuan, 17 in Vinh Long, 17 in Binh Thuan, 13 in Binh Phuoc, 11 in Can Tho, eight in An Giang, four in Soc Trang, four in Quang Ngai, three in Bac Ninh, three in Tra Vinh, and one each in Dak Nong, Binh Dinh, Ca Mau, Vinh Phuc, Lam Dong, Dak Lak, and Bac Giang.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Wednesday, the city also recorded 2,229 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Thursday evening, 37,288 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 21,493 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 58 cities and provinces nationwide.

33 imported patients are all Vietnamese citizens who recently returned from abroad. They were sent to quarantine areas in Thanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Quang Nam, and Binh Dinh upon arrival and are now being treated at local hospitals.


With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 40,850 including 38,858 locally-transmitted cases.

As of 6 pm on July 15, a total of 9,688 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.

So far there have been 207 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.
