Nearly 4,800 new Covid-19 infections confirmed on Tuesday

Vietnam has recorded 4,795 more Covid-19 infections on Tuesday, including 3,322 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City, raising the total number of patients in the country to 62,820, the Ministry of Health has reported.

According to the ministry's report, 4,789 of the newly-confirmed patients are locally-transmitted cases most of whom were detected in quarantine sites or areas under lockdown in some localities including 3,322 in Ho Chi Minh City, 578 in Binh Duong, 133 in Tien Giang, 162 in Dong Nai, 66 in Dong Thap, 61 in Danang, 53 in Khanh Hoa, 46 in Hanoi, 46 in Long An, 45 in Can Tho, 43 in Vinh Long, 39 in Phu Yen, 34 in Ben Tre, 26 in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, 22 in Ninh Thuan, 20 in Kien Giang, 14 in Binh Thuan, 10 in Hau Giang, 10 in Dak Lak, nine in Vinh Phuc, eight in An Giang, eight in Nghe An, six in Binh Phuoc, four in Bac Lieu, four in Bac Ninh, three in Lam Dong, three in Quang Nam, three in Binh Dinh, three in Hung Yen, two in Quang Ngai, two in Kon Tum, and one each in Lang Son, Gia Lai, Bac Giang, and Dak Nong.

Ho Chi Minh City continued to report the highest number of new infections in the country. On Monday, the city also recorded 3,074 new patients, the majority of which are individuals who came into contact with confirmed Covid-19 patients or who were detected in either isolation and locked down areas. The city has imposed social distancing measures in 15 days starting from July 9 in an effort to prevent the virus spread.

As of Tuesday evening, 59,165 locally-transmitted cases have been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country on April 27, including 39,666 in the virus hotspot of Ho Chi Minh City. The outbreak has so far spread to 59 cities and provinces nationwide.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 62,820 including 60,735 locally-transmitted cases.

There were six imported patients who are all Vietnamese people who recently returned from abroad.

As of 6 pm on July 20, a total of 11,443 Covid-19 patients had recovered and been discharged from hospital.


So far there have been 334 deaths, most of them being the elderly with serious underlying diseases.

The country has conducted over 4.30 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with 309,791 people having received two doses.
