The “Miss Spring 2011” beauty contest organised by the Vietnam Students’ Association in France took place at Armande Bejart Theatre in Paris on February 12 to celebrate the Lunar New Year.

The third annual event attracted 15 Vietnamese students in France, who passed onto the final round.

In the final round, candidates participated in a range of competitions such as traditional long dress (ao dai), evening dress and Q&A. With her graceful beauty and skillful behaviour, Vo Hong Quan was crowned Miss Spring 2011.

Vo Xuan Hoai, General Secretary of the Vietnam Students’ Association, said the contest aimed to create a playground for Vietnamese students as well as overseas Vietnamese (OVs) in France, and advertise Vietnam’s people and landscape to the international community.

After the competition, the winner of Miss Spring 2011, together with the Vietnam Students’ Association in France, will take part in many activities including assisting Vietnamese students in France, taking part in OV activities and acting as a bridge between Vietnam and international friends.

*** On February 11, an art performance by OVs in France was held in Arcueil, in the suburbs of Paris, drawing the participation of singer Vu Hai, pianist Can Vu Ngoc, the “Fatherland” chorus. It was specifically aimed at the second and third Vietnamese generation growing up in France.

The Vietnamese ambassador to France, Le Kinh Tai, representatives of local authorities and leaders of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in France attended the event.

On the occasion, a representative of Arcueil’s administration praised the enthusiastic participation of Vietnamese artists and the young generations in France, which has played an important role in maintaining and developing the traditional culture, while helping French people understand more about Vietnam and strengthening relations between the two countries.

President of the Overseas Vietnamese Association in France, Therese Nguyen Van Ky, emphasised the significance of organising the art performance to welcome the lunar new-year. She particularly thanked the positive assistance of local authorities and organisations in Arcueil.

In recent years, Arcueil has supported many OV charitable activities in France and held cultural exchanges which are meaningful to OVs and promote mutual understanding between the countries.
