Dantri/DTiNews readers have donated VND400 million (USD17,391) for a boy in the northern province of Nam Dinh who is suffering from a brain tumour.

Of the sum, VND157.46 million was donated through the newspaper’s Hearts Charity Programme and the Vietnam Study Promotion Fund. The remainder was directly sent to the family.

Duy and his mother

On Thursday, the donation of VND157.46 million was granted to the 14-year-old boy’s Nguyen Vu Duy.

Duy’s mother, Do Thi Ngoan said a Vietnamese person in Australia called her to express her sympathy about Duy’s condition.

The boy is receiving chemotherapy before a stem cell transplant. Despite the treatment, he has won prizes in many art, poetry and letter-writing contests.

Duy’s father died when he was just five years old. In 2019, the boy was diagnosed with brain tumour. His condition has worsened, causing him severe pains.

Some kinds of medicines for Duy are not covered by the health insurance, adding more pressure to his family.
