The HiPT Group has signed a memorandum of understanding, agreeing to work together in training members of the labour force in the IT sector.

The agreement was made between HiPT Group and the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), under the guidance of Hanoi-based Vietnam National University (VNU), on February 11.

At the signing ceremony, HiPT Chairman Vo Van Mai said, “This type of cooperation can heighten the quality of training for the IT workforce in Vietnam, where they are in increasingly high demand.”

“HiPT will create better learning conditions at the university, as well as grant scholarships to outstanding students so as to encourage high-level training at the university,” he added.

In return, the university will help to train HiPT’s workforce. This, it is hoped, will raise the prestige of the group both domestically and internationally.

Both sides will collaborate to introduce researchers and students with real-world situations which arise at HiPT’s enterprises. The fields of focus under the new agreement include information and telecom technology.

VNU’s ongoing policy has been to encourage UET to attract investment from the business sector to expand the university’s training capability.

The overall goal is to provide a qualified workforce to meet the growing and changing demands of the country’s human resource market.

VNU has called on HiPT for support to realise its plan to build a new laboratory for students, for use in fields related to electronics and industry.

The facility would help to better train students in the practise of their fields, and also teach them creative thinking skills. Vietnam is forecast to face a major shortage of highly qualified IT workers in the near future.

According to some estimates, the shortage in IT alone may reach to over 200,000 by 2020.
