Additional 15,707 Covid-19 cases confirmed on Saturday

An additional 15,707 Covid-19 cases were confirmed in Vietnam on Saturday and Hanoi continued to record the highest number of patients with over 2,900 cases, according to the Ministry of Health.

According to the ministry's report, 15,658 of the new patients are locally-transmitted cases confirmed in 61 out of 63 localities in the country with five localities seeing the highest numbers including Hanoi (2,945), Danang (973), Hai Phong (745), Hung Yen (693), and Ben Tre (555). There were 49 imported cases confirmed the same day.

The new infections showed a decrease of 243 cases compared to yesterday's figure. There were 10,986 infections found in the community.

As of Saturday evening, 2,119,854 infections had been reported since the new outbreak occurred in the country in late April. Some localities that have recorded the highest number of patients include HCM City (512,636), Binh Duong (292,452), Hanoi (105,660), Dong Nai (99,637), and Tay Ninh (86,964). Vietnam has so far confirmed 135 Omicron-infected cases.

With these new infection cases, the number of Covid-19 patients in Vietnam has increased to 2,126,444. The country now stands 28th among 224 countries and territories worldwide in the number of infections.

On January 22, an additional 3,512 more patients recovered from the disease, raising the number of recoveries in the country to 1,800,692.

On Saturday evening, a further 153 deaths related to Covid-19 were announced, bringing the total number of fatalities in Vietnam to 36,596. The high fatalities were reported in some localities including Hanoi (16), Vinh Long (12), Tien Giang (11), Dong Nai (10), HCM City (10), Dong Thap (9), Hue (8 ), and Soc Trang (8 ).

Vietnam on January 21 administered 1.26 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The country has so far conducted over 174.96 million Covid-19 vaccine shots, with over 73.76 million people having received two doses.
