According to Tran Ngoc Quynh, Head of the Ministry of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs’ Overseas Labour Management Department, the workers have been evacuated to neighboring countries.

He also added that 105 workers are on their way flying to Dubai, and over 400 others near the border with Egypt.

Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Corporation (Vinaconex) said the first flight carrying nearly 200 Vietnamese workers would arrive at Noi Bai International Airport this morning [February 25]. Most of them are workers fromVinaconex Trading & Manpower Export Joint Stock Company (MEC).

According to Quynh, the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has instructed the Vietnamese Embassy in Libya to closely follow the situation to ensure the safety of Vietnamese workers who are living there.

Currently, the workers have been taken to safe accommodations, such as churches and hotels, he said. Vietnam Airlines will also help to provide transportation for Vietnamese citizens to return home.

He also said that the department has not yet any reports of injury or death to Vietnamese nationals in the country.

Libya is now home to nearly 10,000 Vietnamese, including 5,000 in the capital city of Tripoli and surrounding areas, and 2,000 in Benghazi city.
