10,800 new enterprises established in January

Vietnam reported 10,800 newly-established enterprises in January, an increase of 0.7 percent over the previous month, according to the General Statistics Office (GSO).

The figure showed a fall of 16.60 percent compared to that of the same period last year.


According to the GSO's report, 15,100 enterprises resumed operations in the first month of this year, up 146.80 percent against last month but down 21.20 percent against last year. The total number of newly-established enterprises and those resuming operation in January totalled 25,900, a fall of 19.30 percent compared to last year's figure.

Meanwhile, as many as 34,994 firms suspended business activities for a definite time in January, up 19.60 percent on-year.

Enterprises operating in pharmacy, thermal power, water, and IT are expected to grow this year as they won't be affected much by interest rates, according to FiinGroup.

The report by GSO also showed businesses used about VND 27 trillion of investment from the state budget in January, equivalent to 4 percent of this year's plan, and up 3,20 percent on-year. About USD1.35 billion of foreign investment was disbursed in the period, down 16.30 percent on year.

As of January 20, registered foreign investment in Vietnam stood at USD 1.69 billion, down 19.80 percent on-year.

Meanwhile, Vietnamese enterprises invested USD 126.70 million overseas in January, triple the same period last year.
