>> Last Vietnamese workers to return from Libya

The Khang Thong Group is offering to recruit all 10,000 Vietnamese workers returning from Libya to work for its “Happy Land” project.

Joyful reunion

Minister of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs (MoLISA), Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, said the company has pledged to provide guaranteed loans for the returning workers.

She said the “Happy Land” project in the southern province of Long An is estimated to cost around USD2 billion. Construction of the realty project was started on February 14, with expected completion in 2014.

MoLISA’s Department for Overseas Labour Management will take responsibilities to help these workers find new jobs in Vietnam. Any workers who do not want to work for the project will be provided with career assistance to apply for other positions, she emphasised.

She added that the ministry will make policies to support labourers who continue to return from Libya.

According to the department, VIGLACERA Corp, a leading building material producer in Vietnam, has also proposed to recruit around 1,000 of the Vietnamese workers from Libya for its subsidiaries.

Some other construction firms have also offered monthly payments of between, USD200 and USD1,000, to skilled labourers.

On March 9, the Hanoi Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs said it had approved an aid package for 946 workers returning from Libya. Each labourer will be granted with VND1 million (USD47.92).

The municipal department has also called on banks operating in the capital city to temporarily delay debt collection, and to suspend interest rates for those returning from the country for two years.

Vietnam has led the way among nations with overseas workers in the troubled nation to evacuate their citizens, according to MoLISA.

As of yesterday [March 9], 8,700 Vietnamese workers have returned home by air.

Also, a ship carrying 1,121 Vietnamese workers from Libya is expected to arrive at the port of Haiphong on March 21.

The remaining 292 labourers, who have been excavated to Algeria andEgypt, will be brought home in next few days.
