Ten officials questioned concerning in JTC bribery case

The Ministry of Transport has announced the names of 10 officials who may have to account for their responsibilities concerning the JTC's bribery allegations, including one former deputy minister.

These officials are present or former managers and supervisors of Hanoi Urban Railway project, Route 1, whose contract with Japan Transportation Consultants, Inc. (JTC) was said to have included bribes to Vietnamese officials.

The list consists of a high-ranking leader from the Ministry of Transport and heads of its subordinate departments and agencies. As of now, four officials from Vietnam Railways have been suspended and are under investigation.

The Ministry of Transport has not yet received any reports from the agencies involved in the scandal, even though they were required to submit verified reports on individual responsibilities by March 26.

On March 25, the Ministry of Transport established an inspection team for management and construction works for the Hanoi Urban Railway project, as well as other projects invested in by Vietnam Railways and constructed by JTC. These projects include Ha Long-Cai Lan, Lim-Pha Lai, and Pha Lai-Ha Long railway sections.

The deputy minister of transport, Nguyen Ngoc Dong, arrived in Japan today to acquire more information on the case as well as the list of bribe-receiving officials.

The list of ten officials:

Le Manh Hung, former Deputy Minister of Transport, managed the railway sector from 2008, retired in March 2013.

Nguyen Huu Bang, former president of Vietnam Railway.

Ha Khac Hao, former Deputy Director of Department of Planning and Investment.

Nguyen Duc Thang, head of the Directorate for Roads of Vietnam and former deputy directorate of Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau.

Tran Quoc Viet, chairman of Vietnam Expressway Corporation and former director of Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau.

Nguyen Minh Tuyen, Deputy Director of Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau.

Le Quyet Tien, head of the Office of Legislation and Procurement under Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau.

Phan Huu Bien, official of the Office of Legislation and Procurement under Transport Engineering Construction and Quality Management Bureau.

Vu Nam Nguyen, official of the Department of Planning and Investment.

Trieu Khac Dung, Director of Road Construction Management Bureau, under the Directorates for Roads of Vietnam.
