Khanh Hoa Province wants an international casino, an official with the provincial People's Committee said.

Nguyen Van Thanh, vice chairman of the  Nha Trang Tourism Association, told DTiNews the casino would diversify the province’s tourism mix by attracting “wealthy visitors”.

Thanh said Khanh Hoa has a cool and moderate climate and nice beaches, and Cam Ranh International Airport.

The provincial proposal is based on recommendations from Hung Thinh Real Estate Investment JSC. The scheme involves a 311,000 square metre development on the northern Cam Ranh peninsular.

The project would include a five-star hotel and casino, villas and resorts.

Seven casino licenses have been issued in Vietnam, in Ba Ria-Vung Tau, Quang Nam, Quang Ninh, Kien Giang, Haiphong and Danang.

Only foreign nationals and Vietnamese expatriates can use the casinos, but the Ministry of Finance last year proposed allowing entry to Vietnamese residents considered "financially capable".
