Proposed design of Long Thanh International Airport

The 13th National Assembly (NA) resolved in its ninth session that the ACV select key backers within eight months, and engage consultants for the project.

Transport Minister Dinh La Thang said the ministry wants the ACV to be lead project investor.

Thang said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung proposed the project to the Japanese government and other investors during a recent visit. Potential Japanese partners expressed interest in the Long Thanh International Airport project and a related express railway.

The Long Thanh International Airport is estimated to cost VND336.76 trn (USD15.4 bn), the first phrase is estimated to cost VND114.57trn.

The project’s investment is expected to come from the state budget, official development assistance (ODA), and private investment.

The project will be carried out in three phrases, with the first phrase having a capacity of 25m passengers a year and 1.2m tonnes of cargo.

Under the second phase, the airport will expand to 50m passengers a year and 1.5m tonnes of cargo.

The project will ultimately have capacity of 100m passengers and five million tonnes of cargo.
