Parkson Corp Sdn Bhd plans to open 12 new outlets next year – two in Malaysia, six in China and four in Vietnam.

Chief operating officer Toh Peng Koon said the company had identified several locations for its new outlets in China and Vietnam but did not disclose the names of the “big” cities or locations.

“Consumer confidence in Malaysia, China and Vietnam has improved after a year of global economic recession and we are upbeat that the retail segment in these countries will grow next year,’’ said Toh.

He said the company would also expand to Cambodia where its first outlet would be opened in a shopping centre in Phnom Penh city centre by early 2011.

Toh was speaking at the opening of Parkson’s outlet at Kluang Parade shopping centre by Kluang Municipal Council president Abdul Rahman Mohamed Dewam.

The outlet is the company’s 35th in Malaysia and the third in Johor – the other outlets are in Johor Baru Holiday Plaza shopping centre and 1Mall Batu Pahat.

Toh said concurrently, the company yesterday also opened two new outlets – one each in China and Vietnam – bringing the total number of outlets to 46 and five in China and Vietnam respectively.
