Construction will begin on a pilot urban railway, running from Nhon to Hanoi Railway Station, on September 22.

Hanoi will have 5 urban railway routes

Nguyen Van Khoi, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Hanoi, requested relevant agencies and Tu Liem District to finalise preparations for the project before September 16.

Accordingly, the Hanoi Site Clearance Steering Board will direct the Hanoi Land Development Fund to resolve pending issues with two families whose agricultural land covers part of the project’s work site before September 16.

Hanoi’s Department of Transport and the Hanoi Police Department will take responsibilities of controlling traffic on routes leading to the work sites where the railway route construction will be started on September 22.

This urban railway line will run between Nhon, Tu Liem District, Hanoi and the Hanoi Railway Station. It is the 3rd railway route of Hanoi’s master plan for transportation to be completed by 2020. The total length of its major route is over 12 kilometres.

This is one of five urban railway routes connecting internal areas of Hanoi with neighbouring cities such as Bac Ninh, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen or Thai Nguyen.

The 1st railway route will run between Ngoc Hoi, Yen Vien and Nhu Quynh. It will link areas located towards the northeast and the south of Hanoi with downtown.

The 3rd railway route will run between Nhon, Hanoi Railway Station and Hoang Mai District.
It will connect the city’s western part to the downtown and the southern part of the city.

The 4th railway route will run between Dong Anh, Sai Dong, Vinh Tuy, Thanh Xuan, Tu Liem, Thuong Cat and Me Linh. This route will connect these areas together as well as connecting with the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 5th railway routes.

The 5th railway route will run between the southern part of West Lake, Ngoc Khanh and Lang-Hoa Lac. It will connect the downtown with urban areas located along Lang-Hoa Lac route. It will be 34.5 kilometres in length.
