The Vietnamese Ministry of Health has fined Coca Cola Beverages Vietnam Ltd. VND433 million (USD19,000) for violations in the production of food supplements.

According to Nguyen Van Nhien, deputy chief inspector of the ministry, said that the violations were found following a recent 45-day inspection which included a visit to the company’s partners, including distributors, raw material suppliers and packaging contractors.

The ministry also confiscated one batch of Samurai Strawberry energy drink produced by Coca Cola Vietnam

The inspection came amid rising concerns among local consumers over the quality of many popular drinks.

Three Coca Cola Vietnam plants in Hanoi, HCM City and Danang also produce 13 food supplements without the Ministry of Health’s certificate on food hygiene and safety.

The ministry also confiscated one batch of Samurai Strawberry energy drink produced by Coca Cola Vietnam for failing to ensure it included its labelled Vitamin B9 (Acid Folic) content.

This year, besides Coca Cola Vietnam, the Ministry of Health will also check food safety at PepsiCo Vietnam, URC Vietnam and Wonderfarm.
